Coming home from a bar, it's absolutely necessary to wash everything you own. You will reek of smoke. Smoking publicly is okay here. Amongst men, that is. But socially, women smoking is a no no. So where do the ladies go to puff away for a quick nicotine rush? The restroom, of course. Behind these close doors sits (or squats) a woman in heels and a cigarette in hand. Being a female foreigner, it is not such a big deal. We get stares, but that's normal in itself. As I'd rather not use this blog for deep social and political issues, I will end this one with a great link that explains smoking in South Korea a bit more in detail. :)
